I was 15 years at one company. That sounds like a man with a briefcase from the 1950’s. In the US now, the average time spent at a single company is 4.2 years. I know I was a unicorn in many ways. I learned a lot and worked on diverse accounts from soft drinks and energy to risk insurance and cable tv. It was a fun ride. I gave my heart and soul to the job. In many ways, each project was like working at a different agency. But now I am taking 100 days off. I am overly responsible and accountable and often did not have the time to truly explore my outside endeavors that could propel me in a new direction. Now I have that time. Who do I want to be? Am I the full me I always envisioned? Time is passing and carpe diem is calling! I want to be accountable and not waste a day. Read. Learn. Volunteer. Meet new people. I’ve started a meditation practice. Not everyone gets a chance like this in life. A chance at reinvention.
