How does your garden grow?

Day 60

April 30, 2018

Behold the first pink star tulip. So overstated and fancypants. I am absolutely charmed by it. I had to put some plants I ordered into the ground. Lily of the valley, daylilies, peonies, lenten roses, some exotic daisies, some clematis vines Nan gave us, and sprinkled some violet seeds. The sun is out. The garden has changed in a couple days.

Last year we re-did this hill. It was a complete mess of brambles and poison ivy on a slope. We had great help from a local landscaper to level it into terraces, put in the stones and boulders and plant the trees we picked. We wanted a “fairy path,” which is the serpentine stone steps area. We planted all the daffodils against the wall and tulips last fall. I ordered about 1000 bulbs and bribed friends to come help me get them in the ground with dinner and wine. Last summer we planted lots of perennials along the stones. We call it the grand science experiment, because we have no idea what will pop up. It’s all so exciting!

It snowed yesterday, but the temperature is quickly climbing today! A sample of everything popping up so far:

I can’t believe how alive this is! Lungwort or pulmonaria. What a horrible name for such a beauty.

These tulips look fake to me! I love nature.

Reliable hosta coming up!

Ken and Emily gave me these tulip bulbs! A lovely assortment.

I love these exotic coral-colored daffodils!
