That’s my mom. I am so grateful for life. And for her loving presence. Her creativity and open heart. She is willing to listen at all hours. She is the best a mom can be. I am lucky because I have had many versions of mom in my life. I have my beloved stepmom Carol. A positive force, always bright and looking from the lens of love. Nana B, my grandmother on my dad’s side. She is a spitfire. She is my strength. She also changed my diapers. There was Milly, my mom’s mom. She gave me whatever green thumb gene I have. She was salt of the earth. Loved a good rum coke. Go with the flow. And then Nunanna. My dad’s real mom. She wasn’t in my life regularly until I was a teenager…hence the pronoun “nu.” We would make super 8 films with her and her husband we called Poppy. Then there is Fanny, Nunanna’s mom. When I was child I saw her more than Nunanna. She always gave me a two dollar bill which I thought was rich! And Granma B, Nan B’s mom. We watched Little House on the Prairie with her every Wednesday night. And there was Connie, who was my stepmom after my mom, and was super creative. She made us dresses and coats and stuffed animals. She taught me to shave my arm pits. And now there is Fran, my mother-in-law. A jovial, generous addition to the mom-tourage. You have all given me such wisdom and made me who I am. Ever grateful. I love you all, moms! Happy Mother’s Day.
