My heart

Day 79

May 19, 2018

More gardening, up at dawn, one with this soil, rain or shine. I will never have this amount of time to freely, lavishly spend with plants again when I take a job. I feel blessed. And it is bliss learning about it all. Nothing makes me more calm than gardening and meditation! We put this stone and cement heart in last fall. Not perfect (our first attempt at cement art) but still lovely. Using intuition…this is my heart!

My Nan gave me clematis vines to put on our fence.

Jacob’s ladder. Fern-like leaves. Pretty purple flowers (soon).

I planted a dozen lily-of-the-valley. They probably won’t flower til next year. I had a bunch of pips, thought they were dead! Soaked them in luke warm water overnight, and two weeks later they all sprouted into leaves! A miracle! the life force is strong.

Lenten rose (helleborus.) Early bloomer, shade lover.

Maidenhair fern. Last to bloom. One of my favorites.

This annual, the gazania, is from South Africa. I am in love. Makes me think of the most beautiful garden in the world, The Kirstenbosch.

I had to plant violets in honor of my grandfather. He had them all along the side of his house. This is the Johnny-jump-up. They seem to really be taking under the tree by the lake. Happiness. I spend time with all of these plants like they are new and old friends. This is everything I have wanted to do for about a decade. Fulfilled.
